I found a good article that talks about the psychology of grief when we lose a loved one. The latter theoretical model can be applied to explain how people react to sudden economic crisis. Slovenia was hit by crisis unexpected like sudden death of loved one. So the psychology of death trauma and unexpected crises is nearly the same.
Grief takes place in several stages:
1 denial of reality
2 barganing
3 anger
4 surrender to fate
5 A new start
1 Denying reality occurs when a person suffers a sudden trauma. For example, the death of a loved one. In the case of Slovenia, we can talk about the shock that came when faced with an unexpected economic crisis. No one wont to believe that we are in trouble.
2 Bargaining is the second phase of psychological reactions to sudden trauma. The man (in mind or better in phantasy) tries to return to the past and tries to make a deal that would prevent a loss. When people are mourning in this stage, they are trying to exchange the material wealth to get death person back ( in phantasy). In the case of dealing with the economic crisis, many began to mourn for the period of economic growth and tried to exchange something to get back the good old days.
3 Anger occurs when a man finds that it is impossible to bargain in reality. Bargaining with ''sold'' is possible joust in phantasy. This realization leads to anger. On the death of a loved one's anger is focused on the circumstances of the death (doctors, social conditions, relatives). In the case of an economic crisis, people anger is focused on authorities and the owners of production means (elites). Protests are therefore a logical consequence of the situation. Phase anger can get into a revolution and a new beginning, or fall into surrender.
4 Phase of surrender is a phase of inactivity. This stage was very evident in Czechoslovakia after the suppression of the revolution.
5.A new beginning means the end of the process.
Slovenia is now facing stage 3. What is your opinion about this model?
